Remembering Wisdom
We are not alone.
Dear Dementia,
This is magnificence - this mountain, this sky, this wind, this sun, these clouds, these trees. I am pulled from the limits of an ordinary day to stand in wonder and remember.
You know, we humans do a good job of forgetting without any interference from you. This forgetting, abetted by a culture optimized to draw our attention away from the profound into the glare of the mundane, impacts our world deeply. But, unlike the devastating erasure of your work, we can still remember.
If we turn away from distractions, if we stand amid the miracles of the natural world, if we quiet the voices in our heads and breathe deeply, if we listen for the sound of our heartbeat, we remember that we are connected to all life. We remember that we are tied to each other and to all the beings with whom we share this fragile planet. We remember that what hurts one of us, hurts all of us. We remember the power of kind words and brave deeds. We remember that we are not alone.
Perhaps you know this. Perhaps it seems unbelievable to you that those who can remember, choose not to. Perhaps you might even urge us to cherish the wisdom handed down to us across the generations, wisdom we so desperately need.
Perhaps.
Ann

Gorgeous. I needed this reminder. Thank you.
